Be aware that there is a significant difference between the reviews and recommendations on this blog. Just because I review a book, TV show, or movie does not mean I recommend it. I am simply analyzing the work and giving my honest opinion of it, as well as providing key points such as the plot summary, age appropriateness (if the reader should choose to read or watch it), and anything else that's noteworthy.
Based on Shannon Hale's book by the same title, Austenland (2013) is about an Austenite going to experience Jane Austen's world. Starring Keri Russell, JJ Field, and Jennifer Coolidge, this is a comedy any Jane Austen lover can appreciate.

Plot Summary
Jane Hayes is obsessed with anything related to Pride and Prejudice, particularly Mr. Darcy. When she discovers a vacation destination that promises an immersive Austen experience, she jumps at the chance and books her ticket to England. Say goodbye to technology and the modern world! Jane's entering a culture where men and women can't be alone together and the daily activities include sewing, croquet, and whist. Perfect, right?
But the trip doesn't go as Jane plans and while she's navigating the ins and outs of the Regency era, she holds out hope of finding her own Mr. Darcy before the trip is over. But will she be able to recognize him when she sees him, or will all the pretending blind her to the truth?

Pros and Cons
Austen lovers will enjoy this. While this is technically a rom-com, there's more comedy than romance. It's not 100% accurate to the book, but it's close.
There's no swearing, but there is some crude humor and innuendos all throughout the movie. One of the character has a habit of tearing his shirt off and leaving it partially unbuttoned. Another character comes to rescue somebody in the middle of the night and he's only in a robe and boxers. A drunk man tries to assault the main character, but nothing further than a forced kiss occurs before someone helps her.

This sounds pretty funny! Is this an actual place? Austenland?
As far as I know, Austenland is not a real place. However, they do have activities in England such as taking tea while dressed in Regency era clothes.
I enjoyed the book, especially the ending. The movie was hysterical, and definitely not true to the book, but I enjoyed it anyway. I wish the movie had kept the book's ending!
