Ever After: A Cinderella Story is a fun retelling of what Cinderella looks like without any magic. Starring Drew Barrymore, Dougray Scott, and Anjelica Huston, this 1998 romance movie is full of fairy tale charm and medieval enhancements. Today I'll be reviewing this well-loved movie.

Plot Summary
Danielle becomes a servant for her step-mother, Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent, and her step-sisters, Marguerite and Jacqueline, after her father dies. When the king of France announces that Prince Henry must choose a wife before the masquerade ball, the prince hurries to find a woman he can fall in love with. If he does not succeed, he will be forced to marry the princess of Spain. Upon hearing the announcement, Baroness Rodmilla becomes obsessed with endearing Marguerite to the royal family so she'll catch the prince.
When Danielle meets Henry without her step-mother's knowledge, she disguises her identity by going by her late mother's name, Countess Nicole de Lancret. Henry and Danielle quickly fall in love, but her step-mother is determined to get rid of Danielle and see her daughter made queen. And she's not willing to let anybody or anything get in her way.

Pros and Cons
All the acting is well done. The step-mother and Marguerite are easy to hate; the term "evil step-mother" took on a whole new meaning for me after seeing this movie. Danielle is an independent, caring heroine. There is some humor and action, but Henry and Danielle's relationship is the center of the film. The settings and costumes were excellent and the plot fully developed.
There are a handful of swear words. At the beginning it shows Danielle's father dying of a heart attack, which may be upsetting for some. A man twice Danielle's age tries to assault her but she defends herself with swords.

I really enjoyed this movie! I felt it was much more realistic than the animated version. Danielle and Henry are very likable characters and the stepmother and one stepsister are very easy to dislike! I also liked that the second stepsister tried to help Danielle when she could.
