Positively, Penelope - Book Review

Be aware that there is a significant difference between the reviews and recommendations on this blog. Just because I review a book, TV show, or movie does not mean I recommend it. I am simply analyzing the work and giving my honest opinion of it, as well as providing key points such as the plot summary, age appropriateness (if the reader should choose to read or watch it), and anything else that's noteworthy.
A couple weeks ago I did a review on Authentically, Izzy by Pepper Basham. Today I'll be focusing on the sequel, Positively, Penelope, which is the second book in the Skymar trilogy. This Christian fiction contemporary romance is full of theatrical fun and a sweet romance featuring the sunshine-grump trope.

Plot Summary

Penelope Edgewood, Izzy's youngest cousin, has arrived in Skymar for her internship and she is ready for action! Armed with her "Mary Poppins bag", plenty of vintage hats, and optimism, she can't wait to bring Darling House theater back to life with her marketing techniques. However, grumpy part-owner Matt Gray is also in need of a little revitalizing; after loosing his grandmother, mother, and wife in a short period of time, he's chosen to withdraw from everyone except his daughter, Iris. But Penelope is sure she can sprinkle a little magic into his life and convince him to open up.

But as she begins to bring Darling House back to life and sneak past Matt's defenses, someone begins to steal her marketing ideas for a competitive theater. And all evidence points to that someone being in close connection with Darling House. Penelope is horrified that there is a mole, but she's determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, as well as find love and help Matt discover joy in life again.

Pros and Cons

Penelope is like the sunshine-y best friend in many romance novels, except she's the main character. Those who enjoyed her in Authentically, Izzy will love seeing her get her own story and romance.

Luke, Izzy, and Josephine are also in the book and there is a slight update with Brodie and Izzy's romance. Actors and theater fans will love the constant references to various musicals, plays, and movies.

Approximately half of this book is made up of texts and emails, so those who do not enjoy epistolatory novels may want to pass.

Notes

This books is best for teens and adults.

I love this book! This is my favorite out of the Skymar trilogy. Penelope is the ray of sunshine that helps others through their past hurts.

nIris is the cutest thing ever!

nOne of my favorite parts was when Penelope was Iris's baby sitter.

nI 100% recommend this book!

I loved this book! Penelope is so much fun! She reminds me of one of my daughters’ best friends. Matt and Grandpa Gray are adorable! I also enjoyed all the music and musical references, as well as the dancing!
